The plot of A Man of All seasons therefore revolves around Sir. Thomas More’s struggles to remain steadfast within the confines of the catholic teachings and beliefs and at the same time remain truly loyal to King Henry VIII. Henry was a King that demanded absolute obedience from his subjects and in all things. This definitely meant that Sir. Thomas More’s catholic ideals were to be put under compromise if he decided to portray complete loyalty to the King. The ensuing stand off between the two characters demonstrated by their strong wills to achieve the best end of the bargains thus becomes the main plot of this movie. Other interesting characters in the movie that are used to develop the plot include King Henry's chancellor Thomas Cromwell who would do everything possible to prove the guilt of Sir. Thomas More. In the analysis of the film, there are no notable inaccuracies during the period covered in this film. This is due to the fact that the period was dominated by the conflict of Kingship and the loyalty to the teachings of the church.  Such divided loyalties have been presented in a number of historical reviews and remains relevant in our era today.  One aspect that has surprised me in the entire movie is the use of water to present a metaphor of life.  “The currents and eddies of right and wrong, which you find such plain sailing,” (Zinnemann, 1966).  In this sentence, More describes Roper’s beliefs as lost in the currents in the sea. The events in which water has been used is portrayed to have some kind of a supernatural feeling that is to new to me in the application of metaphor in a literal work. In addition to the above, water is also used to denote corruption in that More’s life is given the description of a clear path in comparison to the others that are described as silt and dirt. The application of water to present such strong themes in the movie are new to me in that none of the literal works I have had the chance to view have made such intrinsic application in their themes.

One thing I didn’t know even immediately after watching the movie is that it is a true reflection of the Kennedy – Johnson era in the politics of the United States. This is because Zinneman makes the viewer accept the role of intellectual squabbles that is as ageless as the story of creation. There are obvious values such as the disregard for sanctity as portrayed by Cromwell’s character and purity as demonstrated by Sir. More. The values become obvious because of the plot of the movie; there has to be two antagonizing sides in regard to personal values to present the historical account of the rise and fall of Sir. More. Such a tantalizing master piece must always leave the viewer with some food for thought. I had a strong emotional feeling especially on the character of Sir. Thomas More and why one would chose a particular path in preference to another. One question that pondered over after viewing the movie is whether the Catholic Church still has those who would stand firm in faith when confronted with conflicts of interests as those of Sir. Thomas More’s.
