My career choice is in IT consulting. IT consulting represents a functional specialty that is valuable to virtually any company, regardless of its sector, industry, geographical location, or competitive position. IT consultants serve clients in a range of industries by providing advice on how they can use technology to increase efficiency, manage supply chains, track human resources, increase sales, store information on customer relations, and improve pretty much any business function in which information technology can play a role.My choice of a career in IT consulting is in consideration with my skill set. I am technically inclined, love designing computer systems and applications, and I love exploring business problems behind my work. These are the skills I will be relying on as I strive to make it in IT consultancy. However, it is obvious that IT consultancy requires more than the above. It requires someone who has got the ability to articulate complex business strategy and technological applications to a wide variety of audiences. I consider IT consulting job as the best possible career choice as it will offer me an opportunity to transform ideas into reality. As an IT consultant, I will responsible of finding ways to apply technology to achieve a client's business goal, typically taking on large projects to design, implement and manage information and computer systems. The people who succeed in this job are those who can work with people who do not share their expertise. This desire to articulate complex business strategy and technological applications to a wide variety of audiences has always been my passion.On the other hand, I will consider software development as my worst possible job. The term software developer is most often used to describe the engineers who write program codes. The level of knowledge and expertise required by a programmer or software engineer to develop a successful system is several orders of magnitude greater. The most significant characteristic of these knowledge workers is the high degree of expertise, education and experience they possess. In this case, it is entirely upon the programmer. Personally, I am always looking for the plausible options regarding a problem. I don't believe in being stuck in any problem single handedly. This is my weak point and since I am not much talented in this field, I am not quite sure that I can be the best in the field of software engineering.
Therefore, the most significant and influential themes in my life that I regard the most strategic theme becomes my weakness in this case. In addition, although Sciences have been my subject of choice and as much as I enjoy studying science as it is a subject that comprises so much of life's issues and practices and it is a subject whose application is useful in day to day life, I am not very good when it come to complex interactions within software engineering. Hence, with the above mentioned limitations, software development will be my worst possible job.

To gain skills and expertise required in IT consulting, the newcomers should work with firms that offer valuable training and experience of the best consulting firms. There are four main points of entry. The first option is to work for the large, diversified consulting firms such as Accenture and Delloitte. The second option is to work for product companies that offer IT consulting such as Unisys and Oracle. The third option is to work with smaller and more specialized boutique IT consulting firms. The other option is to work with consulting firms that specialize in areas other than IT such as human resources and health care, but still need technical consultants to deal with their IT needs. Each of the above point of entry has its own advantages as well as disadvantages.Large consulting firms dominate the IT consulting landscape and they are likely to be working with the latest and greatest technologies. They may also have the most prestigious client. These firms can therefore provide the most through training in IT consultancy. However, they are difficult to get into and many new entrants often find themselves spending about two years doing grunt work in not-so-glamorous locations before getting the real assignments. Although the boutique consulting firms and the smaller firms may not have that recognition, they may offer more specialized technology expertise. Smaller IT consulting firms offer a deeper but narrower expertise. Another positive to working with boutique firms is that many are regional and may require less extensive travel.Working for a technology products company that offers IT consulting services can offer the same valuable training and experience as the best consulting firms. However, a newcomer ought to choose their employers carefully. Employment with consulting firms that specialize in areas other than IT is the least common. It becomes particularly valuable strategy if you have knowledge in an area such as health care or human resource, in which consulting firms abound.
